Can I transfer my emails onto a cd with widows xp, and then restore them to my pc later? The reason I ask is because my pc is riddled with virus's, and I understand returning it to factory setting will remove these, as the hard drive is wiped. I can then load a decent protection, but I dont want to lose my emails. Any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers.

Easy to follow instructs but I unfortunately hit a problem and wonder if you could suggest anything! The store folder states the path to application data, identities etc but the folder is empty. I searched for dbx files and found them in 'my documents' dating 2008! If the store folder path is correct why are the emails not being backed up in correct place and how do I back up current emails? Thanks!

Great Information! Thank You!
Hi Rick.
Since all back up emails are saved with an extention of .dbx files... how after saving it to let's say ..cd or dvd or even just in another place or folder; how would you open that email file?
Thanks!

Very rarely can you open any backup from any program...and email is no different. Instead you have to use the restore or import function to utilize your backup. In the case of both Outlook (.pst) and Outlook Express (.dbx), you need to use the import function found in the File menu
