Tracks the development of the 8-second graphic open and dozens of other elements for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, which required a new look for a new anchor. Designed in Boston by Dave Allen and Jean McCarvill of National Ministry of Design, scored by James Horner, produced by Ned Biddle and Stephen Baldwin in association with CBS News, inc.

Let me be clear, I only produced this show! The designers work at National Ministry of Design (NMD) in Boston. The new open was done by CBS in house. If you really like the original, tell CBS producer Eric Shapiro your feelings!

What a great idea. NMD did groundbreaking work on their version of the open. Ironic I posted this piece probably a week before they changed the graphic to the ugly triple-globe glitz.

I really miss these graphics, they were really very elegant and it stood out. And for an 8 second graphic open, these were well thought-out and executed (Especially in comparison to the current graphics CBS is using!).

@NYNewsWATCH It's all tied into Viz anyway, so uploading it here is not easy, it's not like a video, they are PNG sequences.

i agree with you. the new ones are soo cheap?! their ugly....gray and stupid. but i really miss these graphics!!! I wish u guys could post every graphics in HD on u tube; like the open, special report, etc. I hope im not going to crazy on u.....but all i can say is i miss it......i dnt knw y they had to change it. keep up the good work though
