I attached a video of the realities of breeding your own feeders. i breed 100% of my own feeders. i save A TON of money. But it takes as much work as the snakes. It can be worth it on the right scale. a 10 gallon tank of mice? no. 1 rack of rats? No. A rat shed? Now your making some real production! If you dont commit, you wont have success.

I dont breed rats for my snakes because I dont have a huge collection. But I wouldnt even if I did, more because then you are bringing a whole array of potential problems and parasites to your house where your reptiles live. Its best to keep separate I think. Plus I get to catch up with my local reptile shop every time I get rats. I can just care for my snakes then. It only takes once where you smell like rodent and your snake mistakes you for food. It really is whats best for you, but for me no

i started to breed rats about a week and a half ago.
the bedding is like $3.50
and that is lasting me a long time.
then i feed them what ever dog food my dog is eating
so their really cheap for ME to care for

for me, i intend on breeding my own rats in the summer and maybe in a few years even breeding my own rabbits. simply because of the expense of feeding a largish collection. mine isnt that big now, only 15 snakes, but most are gonna get big and the collection is only going to grow.
however when feeding them off they will all be freshly killed for the snakes so as not to cause injury to them
