Back in 1963, the Newark Toll Plaza was considered state of the art, and designed not only to facilitate the traffic of the day, but to accomodate the growth in the traveling public for years to come. During holidays, the daily traffic counts for I-95 within Delaware often exceeds 250,000 vehicles a day. This compares with an estimated 12,000 vehicles per day back in the early 1960's.
The improvements to the Toll Plaza, are only one of several phases of a multi-year, multi-project improvement program substantially upgrading Delaware's portion of I-95.
