Real reform still possible: Keating
http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/content/2010/s3083382.htm

TONY JONES: ... early in 2009, as I said at the beginning of the show, you warned the global financial crisis [GFC] was a catastrophe way worse than it appears. Has that assessment been borne out?

PAUL KEATING: Oh, I think so. In early '09 it wasn't apparent that it was as large as it was and would linger as long. Of course it is large and it is lingering and we're getting these second round effects now in Europe. And yet we still have the big impact in the United States - you know, output is down, demand is down, the Government stimulus is starting to be wound back, the private demand has not picked up, 10 per cent of people are out of work.

You know, it's pretty bad.

  • @Mthooz Korea, Chechnya, The former Yugoslavia, Tibet, Rwanda, East Timor, Iraq, Kuwait, Iran, Israel, Afghanistan-USSR, Afghanistan-USA, Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma. You are a buffoon.

  • @SENTIENTMIND No please! Enlighten me! I wasn't aware that the post WW2 era had wars that were more devastating to human lives and had more of an impact on nations and their governments, altering the political, social, economic and strategic landscape forever.

  • @Mthooz yes, there is something wrong with you. Don't get offended, it's just the internet. The coalition of the willing had more countries in it fighting against one nation than WW2 and WW1 could ever dream of. Would you like me to rattle off the wars since WW2? Or do you think you are quite capable yourself?

  • @SENTIENTMIND Oh there must be something wrong with me! I took his statement to mean that we have been in a state of peace relative to the world wide turmoil that was the case during WW1 and WW2.

  • @Mthooz lol listen to what he says, or is there something wrong with you? I even repeated his own statement. We're not in a state of peace lol. We've been in wars since the last world war....ask yourself what war are we supposedly fighting now? If bombing the hell out of Iraq and Afghanistan is peace then there is something wrong with you and Paul Keating.

  • @SENTIENTMIND I think he's referring to "world wars".
