The JD-800 is one of my favorite digital synths ever. For me the last real big synth from Roland.

i've got Jd-990 which is supposed to be jd-800 clone, just rack version but I never discovered such a brilliant sounding.. is this really true that I can reach the same with my jd-990? Thanks in advance!

yes and no.

the JD-990 can read the sound data from the Jd-800 but the sound is a bit more clean and harsher.

I picked up one JeDi 800 a few days ago...and I'm shocked how well it sounds; no "canned" voices like on other (new) synths and it's sounds soft/analogish/soothing...

Despite 4 layers it doesn't take much sonic place (like the D50) and of course the brilliant interface with sliders...the only problem is the limited memory (even with the RAM card) when cranking out wonderful textures in no time; I would need 9999 user places on board! :-)

Which is more Synclavier-like? The JD 800 or the Korg Wavestation???

If you look up 'Disappointed' by Electronic, you'll see Sumner playing on one in the video. Both the song and synth were brand new. I could only afford the single.

Most of my synths are analog or analog modeling. I'd like a purely digital synth and it would most likely be a JD-800. I love the paramilitary look to its layout. It looks like a control panel you'd see in a video game for driving a hover tank and firing the pulsed laser cannon.

Excellent video. I wonder, though, why people always seem to use the wobbly keyboard stands? I have one of those, and it drives me nuts. After that I only buy the double legged x-stands or the z-shaped stands.
