This was a war of Russian aggression. In the first days of the invasion of South Ossetia by Russia they claimed Georgia had attacked Russia, not South Ossetia, Russia itself, and only after did they change to story to make themselves look like the good guys. An independent EU report found Russia to the the aggressor of the war, not Georgia.
