  • I'm so sick of Jimmie Johnson and the Chase. This stupid Chase format has literally handed him, soon to be, 3 championships. Under the old system when you had to be competitive all year I think '06 would have been the only year he would have come close to the title. He doesn't deserve to be compared to Cale Yarborough's 3 in a row. He had to be the best all season for three years. Something Johnson has never done.

  • Not really a big fan of Jimmie Johnson myself but he did make a great comeback in this race. You will notice at 6:13 of this video that I did a transition to another scene showing Carl getting out of his car. The reason I did a transition was that in the original video it showed Jimmie Johnson's crew and Rick Hendrick giving each other congrats and I cut that little segment out. Did not think it was needed in this video since Carl was the actual winner.

  • it's a shame that we don't see this sport in the unitied kngdom.

  • actually 2006 would've originally been won by johnson anyways. the other 2 are right though. hopefully gordon wins 2009 no matter which format though!

  • The new chase was new, Jimmie just adapted to the changes fast. he knew he had to test at those tracks and build up to the end. he knew not to get behind to far and build up his momentum toward the chase. And if the chase was not issued, Jeff Gordon would have 3 more championships (2004, 2006, 2007). tied with dale earnhardt. and i dont think u guys would want that now would you? I would tho.

  • If 30/43 cars could win a race then they would. Today's fields are no better than they were 30 years ago. Only 5 to 7 guys can win races, and it happens every year. Now I said JJ was given three titles, I never bashed his driving ability. He's a great driver but at least two of his three championships were given to him. With the Chase you can be mediocre until the lat ten races, and become champion. With the old system you had to be #1 for at least half the season, just to contend for it.

  • It was always the same 5-7 racers though that were ALWAYS competing. In today's racing world, about 30/43 of the racers could actually win a race at any given time. You said "JJ is a fantastic driver." in your second post, and "they had to actually drive the damn car." just now. Quite contradictory if I may say so. And nobody gets a title handed to them. Not like anyone is gonna give out the trophy from the super bowl.

  • Competition was the same back in the day as it is today. You usually had about 5 to 7 guys racing for the win each week. And back when the legends were racing they had to actually drive the damn car. No power steering, bias ply tires, no aero bullshit, and big old stock bodies. Oh and guess what, they drove at over 200 MPH. None of this 185 pussy bullshit. As far as his title goes he did get them handed to him. He wouldn't of even been close the last 2 years, if it was still under the old way.

  • Please. How on earth did he have championships handed to him? In this day and age, NOTHING is handed to you. How do you win three championships in a row and not earn them? He came back on this particular race to prevent Carl from gaining points on him. Besides - When the legends were racing, the competition level was MUCH less than today. If you had money, you had the wins.

  • Don't get me wrong, JJ is a fantastic driver. But I feel that he's kinda had is Championshpis handed to him, he didn't earn them like the other legends of the sport. But yes I am glad you showed Carl. I can't believe how popular he is now. I met him at the 2003 truck race at Charlotte and have been a fan of his since. It's amazing how successful he's become in such a short time.
