"Street Lamps" is a poem I wrote for Nomi last fall so I used it in this memorial video along with photos and "The Cold Song" for background music. Having an uncle who died of AIDS, it's made me more sensitive to those suffering with the disease and especially those who passed from it. Klaus was one of the first famous ones to pass and he will be missed, though his music will live on. Klaus Nomi, this is for you.

Also dedicated to my uncle who would have been 44 this year.

  • I have the greatest respect for Nomi. He performed even in the late stages of AIDS and all but the last months of his life. To go onstage, breathless, fatigued, plagued by the other ills of this disease such as incontinence and such, and to sing operatic scores with near perfection, must have been a herculean task for anyone.

I salute you, Nomi, for your courage and perserverance; symbols we all can aspire to and proud efforts of endurance which outshine even your fine music.

  • Same here. Nomi was a legend and probably the greatest thing to happen in the history of music. I only wish I could have been there to see it.

  • Hi! Who is the man at 3.45?

They aired the movie some days ago, but my TV broke just some hours before. :-(

  • The one striking a pose is Nomi (go figure, lol), but I'm not sure who the other man is to be honest. I wanna say it was one of his friends that was with him through most of his carier, but I'm not positive.

  • Klaus stirbt nie! Ich bin mir sicher, dass seine Stimme auch in 100 Jahren noch gehört wird! ;-)

  • I truly hope so too.

  • ilgruener: "A bit to homo erotic for me..." What the hell kind of comment is that? When I say I enjoy watching an artist, I never say 'oh, but it's just too hetero for me." Klaus was gay. Get over it, and grow up. Learn to appreciate without prejudice.

  • If you say it's too 'homo-erotic', how can you say your feeling for him is 'not in the least bit tainted'?

  • Hommage véritablement sublime. Merci. Pourquoi dans mon coeur ce mélange de plaisir et d'infinie tristesse?
