Here's my 1956 Motorola 56W AM radio with a phono jack. I picked this up off of eBay for just $15 and everything works! It has brilliant clarity and great radio reception. The phono jack is cool in the way that as soon as you plug in the aux chord, it will automatically switch over to phono. It is a bit touchy when the volume knob is adjusted, but other than that, it's another great antique radio! Enjoy!

That explains why those early consoles look like car radios! I always knew they were late comers to the radio market, but did not know they only made car radios. You learn something new every day! Thanks!

  • Cool radio- Motorola was a relatively late comer in the radio market. They began by making only car radios in the late 1930's, which was where the name originally came from. Their first home radios were actually car radios retrofitted into wood cabinets and fitted with power supplies.
