Nice Day

A powerful, hard-hitting commercial which highlights the daily abuse and bullying endured by people with learning disabilities was launched by the Disability Rights Commission (DRC) in cinemas across Britain on Friday, 30th March 2007.

'Nice Day' features actor Russell Ramsey, who has Down's Syndrome, and highlights the negative attitudes, verbal abuse and hostility that many people with learning disabilities face on the streets every day.

Nine out of ten people with a learning disability say they have experienced harassment and bullying and a new poll, conducted by IPSOS/MORI for the DRC, found that a third of disabled adults say that they don't feel safe in their local area.

'Nice Day', directed by Paul Gay with voice over by Meera Syall, is part of the DRC's 'Are we taking the dis?' campaign, which was launched last year. The campaign aims to shine a spotlight on the deep-rooted and persistent discrimination that many disabled people face in Britain today.

My dear friend Lisa has a learning disability. We were browsing around at a shopping mall on Boxing Day a few years ago, when two young girls behind us said "let's hit the retard", then hit Lisa on the back!!!! She turned around and the girl apologized, and Lisa said that if she were really sorry she wouldn't have hit her in the first place. Boy, did I tear a strip off them too.

Great powerful video! Many people with a learning disability do encounter these problems and it's a sad fact that it can be hurtful and a lack of awareness on the people that are bullying the person with a learning disability. You do a great deal to change people's attitudes to disability and may you continue!

People who take the piss out of people with learning disabilities ssuch as Down's syndrome people etc should not do it. I think that people who do this are as thick as two short planks and/or are chavs.

I have a Learning Disability and was bullied growing up. I never really fit in with any group and was by myself most of the time.

And some people in my class would mimic what I say if the teacher wasn't around to hear or call me dumb because what I would usually say was off topic.

But I'm not going through that crap anymore now. I moved and will be going back to college in the Spring.

Nice vid, too, man. It shows how people can asses towards people who are different and judge them for it.

People with disabilities have rights too, you know. They are first and foremost human beings and most certainly do NOT deserve to be bullied in any way, shape or form. By the way ... the next time you want to pick on someone I suggest you look in the mirror first, because we ALL have a disability of some kind. Nobody's perfect. And it looks like you're the one who needs to go back to SCHOOL, not "skool."
