I've been looking for a new laptop for a while now, partly for doing university work, and partly to game on. I have a budget of about £550. I've come across two laptops that have taken my eye, both Acer, both refurbished, and I wanted your opinion:

1) ACER Aspire 5742G Refurbished Laptop - £579

What do you think? I was thinking of going for the 2nd option, as it's £50 less for essentially the same thing.
Are there any other laptops that have better or similar specs for a better price?
How would they be for gaming?
What games would I realistically be able to run?
I would REALLY appreciate it if you could reply, I do understand you are a busy guy :)

I have a few questions that I wanted to ask you. Well the first one is about motherboard and video cards, I have an asus motherboard its a p7p55d-e. It says that only supports crossfire, and my question is what if I put a dual gpu card like a 9800gx2 will it run it at full 16x and will both GPUS be utilized by video games and video editing software. Im running an intel xeon x3430 at 3.98ghz

On to the next one, whats the best format to encode audio,mp3,acc,aiff encoder,lossless, or wav which one gives you the best sound I cant tell.

Any thoughts on 22 nm architecture IVY BRIDGE (allegedly half the power consumed and 20% better then Sanddy Bridge) and the new nvidia Kepler GPUs supposed to be 3 to 4 times "performance per watt" comming out late 2011 allegedly?

I was wondering if I could launch an official server for Raze the World and Brink, I wanted to get your permission before doing it. I think the game will be amazing and bring back a much needed aspect of FPS. What is your take on this game, and if you will allow me to launch a Brink server can you announce it in the video as to get the word out. I want RTW to be one of the most popular Brink servers that everyone wants to play on, because we are just that damn awesome.

@totoytugs Yes, the DDR number of the graphics card RAM has no relevance to the DDR number of the motherboard RAM.

Radeon kind of blow, first of all they don't support 3D Vision, secondly I have nothing but problems with Radeon cards, my gf's radeon has pixels that show up on her screen sometimes, and me I get a stupid line and some garbled crap around my cursor from time to time, i googled it, and EVERY single person that had posted the issue on a forum... I checked their specs out, and ALL of them had Radeon cards, lol

Never an issue with an Nvidia card to date, AND 3D Vision :-)
