A gigantic caterpiller bulldozing through the leaflitter.

This is one of the largest insectspecies in Sweden measuring a impressing 10 cm. At this point it has just left the birch trunk where it has lived for at least two years. It's late in the summer and in a few days it will be dug down in the ground to pupate during the following winter. When the transformation is complete it will emerge as a goat moth. Due to the larveas negative impact on the host tree its old name in swedish is common tree killer.

Inspired by BBC's and David Attenborough's Life in the Undergrowth I dug down my camera in the ground to really get to it's level.

The music was made specially for this short by Christoffer Hall www.studiogravel.se
