@ccexpressable I tried that at first, but it was harder to ignite and didn't get it to burn as well. If you don't have charcoal then sulfur would also help it burn better.

what if you up the sugar content and do away with the charcoal?

Let me know how it works and please post a video so I can see how yours works.
The propellant can produce something like 133 isp. And it is really cheap.

60% KNO3
10% sugar
5% aluminum powder
5% charcoal
20% bondo fiberglass resin
Nice burn, nearly smokeless.
What's the composition? 5*
