To GsliMaIiy: Slavery was limited to 6 years?? I think not! God himself told his peeps exactly where to buy slaves, and then specifically and directly said the slaves "may be your property. You may bequeath them to your sons after you, to inherit as a possession forever." FOREVER is not 6 years! Why not upgrade to "mainstream" Christianity, so you can be honest about the Bible's shortcomings and still revere it? There has ALWAYS been slavery—REAL slavery. Stop making excuses on God's behalf!

To GsliMaIiy: It is a waste of time dialoging with a fundamentalist. Let me just say this: get real! You parrot the pat answer you heard in church. Of COURSE churches will have an answer for every goofy or patently false thing the Bible says (like "it wasn't really slavery then"); what else CAN they say, if they are to stay in business? The Bible is chock full of favorable references to slavery, and NO reference to it being a bad thing.

@ApplyUrBrain this video is not about slavery -- it's about Proverbs 17:15 and an unjust/corrupt judge...
(Leviticus 25:38-46) In the original Hebrew the word is not slave but "servant" (5650, mascline noun, 'ebed, servant -- bondage, bondman). Slavery in the Bible was n-o-t the same as it is in modern times. It was more like being an indentured servant. Slavery was limited to 6 years (Exodus 21:2). Slaves had rights and protection under the Law (Ex.21:20). (CONTINUED NEXT COMMENT).

Lev 25:38. "I am the LORD your God.... As for your male & female slaves whom you may have: you may buy ... from among the nations that are round about you. You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you & their families that are with you, who have been born in your land; & they may be your property. You may bequeath them to your sons after you, to inherit as a possession for ever; you may make slaves of them."
You STILL believe a book that says God approved slavery? Go figure.

It was also possible for slaves to attain positions of power and honor (Genesis 24:2;41:12). In addition the people under the king were called his servants (Genesis 21:25); as well as his officers (1 Samuel 19:1); officials (2 Kings 22:12); ambassadors ( Numbers 22:18); vassal kings (2 Samuel 10:19); tributary nations (1 Chronicles 18:2, 6, 13). The term is also applied to those who worship God (Nehemiah 1:10); and to those who minister or serve Him (Isaiah 49:5, 6).

@GsliMaIiy Thank you so much for clarifying that for me. I so appreciate you succinct answer and references!! Many people are too angry to read or listen before they make up their minds.
