"It's adult dreams and disappointments as seen through a child's eyes." Alan Ayckbourn

MY WONDERFUL DAY is Alan Ayckbourn's 73rd play which premiered in London and New York in 2009, the same year he turned 70 and the 50th anniversary of his very first play THE SQUARE CAT.

Nine year old Winnie Barnstairs is taking a day off school and accompanies her heavily pregnant single mum, Laverne, to work. Laverne is cleaning the fashionable house of cantankerous minor television personality, Kevin Tate. Laverne tells Winnie she must be quiet and do her homework, an essay titled "My Wonderful Day."

We discover that Kevin's media savvy, BAFTA winning wife Paula has walked out on him. His ditzy "half-baked tart" secretary Tiffany arrives and Winnie is left in the eccentric care of these variously churlish, twittering, doleful, upset adults. She listens, she watches, she writes it down.

"My Wonderful Day finds him (Ayckbourn) in top form and breaking new ground... A startling child's eye view of adults... Blissfully and farcically funny." Telegraph (UK)

"There is no greater danger to adult notions of propriety than a perceptive nine-year-old with a notebook." The Guardian

"Typically Ayckbourn -- a farce of marital infidelity among media folk... Even as we laugh at their ridiculousness, we feel compassion... and recognising, as well, how ridiculous our adult selves might appear to the child we all once were."The Observer
