Riker is the Chuck Norris of Star Trek TNG.
Normally I'd pick Q, but Q doesn't have a beard. ;)

Luckily Riker used his pimp hand.

i noticed that too. when i was watching this for the 1st time i thought, wtf, Data is one of the strongest beings in the universe (for a humanoid size), and Riker just can block his attack with a standard Judo move?
but i think in this case, Data was just confused, malfunctioning & didn´t really know what he was doing. if he had acted purposefully, he would have effortlessly broken Riker´s arm & slipped out of Worf´s grip.
but then again, that was not the purpose of this episode.

@Cyanakrli I'm sure that's been said in some episode of the show, but if you ask me, it's just a cheap excuse for the inconsistency.
-
@shininginshadows well, looking at some other displays of datas strength in earlier episodes, going by your reasoning would mean that I could defend myself from a tank rolling over me by using leverage and some kind of judo grip.

I noticed this too

data was not build to be a fighting mashine, so the one who build data implemented a program that regulates his power so like a normal human data is only able to use his full power if his life or the life of a comrade is in great danger, thats why he was able to take down that borg without any problems or bending steelpipes if the sittuation requires while he is unable to use more than normal human streingth against his comrades.

must mean Riker is one of them secret augmented cyborgs

@callmedeebo While technically accurate, Data has shown himself capable of effortlessly lifting objects weighing over one thousand pounds, so his physical strength would be able to overcome any leverage advantage a human could have. That being said, perhaps Data simply wasn't using his full strength.
-
If i remember correctly data was subconsciously perceiving invisible creatures on the crew. the knife was his attempt at removing/killing the creature not kill the crew mate.

You can see the blade wiggling because it's just a piece of foam.

Data just isn't trying here. If he were, both Riker and Worf would be mincemeat.
Perhaps I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, but that move in particular is a Judo defense move. It's all about leverage. It doesn't matter the strength of the attacker.

@callmedeebo While I'm not disputing that this is a common theme among many martial arts defense styles, there is a defference between blocking your above-average attack from a human being versus getting hit by a van. Sometimes I think the clip of Data effortlessly bending a steel rod would have been a better clip than him effortlessly throwing a drone against a wall.
