The woman of the east, painted by Theodore Jacques Ralli, the most important Greek orientalist painter. Theodore Jacques Ralli studied in Paris under Jean Leon Gerome, French painter and professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, and under Jean Jules Antoine Lecomte du Nouv, both famous for their orientalist paintings.
The romantic mysticism and suggestive sensuality of his many orientalistic paintings evolve from his many trips in North Africa and the Middle East, (he even settled for a while in Cairo, Egypt). His paintings were elaborated with great attention to detail, to costumes and the facial expressions.

  • Absolutely gorgeous, d. So well done! I must find out more about Theodore Jacques Ralli. He reminds me of Gerome and Edwin Long, among others. I love the orientalists. Brilliant paintings.

  • Indeed, Ralli was a student of Gerome! Thanks for watching!
