@TheMekon Warren Mitchell was an not an expat when he acted in the show, also he is playing a character - knowledge of his 'real self' to the character of Alf Garnett is irrelevant. Mitchell wasn't picked to play the part because he was Jewish, he was picked because he plays it well. If someone wants to identify with Alf Garnett the character, it is entirely up to them to do so, those who wish to laugh at him, can do likewise. I do so hate liberals who think they have the moral high ground.

Who in 40 years time will remember all this reality crap, or want to watch it? Classic BBC sitcoms still have a huge following now, can't see many people wanting to watch a re run of TOWIE in 40 years time. I am sick of seeing braindead tossers moaning in a fake house, zelebs in a fake jungle, etc, but put a sitcom like this on again and I'll watch it every time.

They don't show this on TV any more because the humour isn't effective or relevant any more - it doesn't resonate with our modern UK life, not because of politically correctness. Just like Steptoe and Son: who knows about the rag and bone men now? Alf's racism back then cut quite close to the bone of real British society - we all knew people who were like Alf so it rang true and was funny. But nowadays racists attitudes, the brunt of the joke, are not so widespread, so the laughs falls short.

The beauty of racism is the fact we Brits r All racist but we're not personal about it well apart from those common chavs who were dragged up and vote BNP!
