Dangers of lane splitting HOV in CA

This happens quite often, at least some drivers like this guy will signal that they're about to illegally exit the carpool lane. He just couldn't wait that extra 50ft to legally exit. I split HOV at 35 mph, and entrance/exits and regular traffic at 20. This is always really bad 405 North by the exit for the 10. *audio sounds like squealing brakes but that's just the horn making the mic go weird.

www.chp.ca.gov "Lane splitting by motorcycles is permissible but must be done in a safe and prudent manner."

Watch the video to the right titled 'Motorcycle Crash Lane Splitting'. I blasted my horn so he might remember and think twice or check his mirrors if he does a move like that in the future.

Your an asshole, the guy in the Truck clearly had his indicator on way before you got to him and he slowly began to edge over. I'm a biker myself in London and lane split all the time, but you've got the cheek to ride up his ass and blast your horn - you make me Mad, go pickup a copy of the common sense book asshole!

Hey if your turning and it's clear then by all means change lanes. But if there's someone clearly coming from behind and it doesn't look like you'll change lanes safely don't.

I am a biker. The biker in this video is an IDIOT and in the wrong in more ways than one. He is coming from behind and the truck has his blinker on. The biker OBVIOUSLY saw the indicator and decides (on his own) that the trucker is in error when in fact it was/is the biker abusing the benefit of lane splitting...or trying to

@TheScrewable I don't buy that for a second. Sure if you're doing high speed lanesplitting then obviously a louder exhaust won't help much, but if you happen to be passing through someone's blind spot and they don't look before they merge then it helps if they can hear your bike. And scaring someone into swerving into you? That's just not going to happen...

@Esoteric44 why would he need a louder exhaust? Loud pipes don't save lives if that was what you were referring to. They actually put you life in more danger than ever before. If you are splitting lanes legally or illegally and you pass somebody that gets scarred easily you might scare them and cause them to swerve into you.

@Esoteric44 Maybe the cop was going home and could give two shits whether you were doing something wrong or not or maybe you were doing it when it was starting to get dark and the motorcycle cop was not allowed to pull you over. you are only allowed to split the two lanes on the right except the HOV lane. they tell you this in the motorcycle course you are required to take when you get a M1.

I ride and filter every day, this is actually one of the good guys - indicated, then manouvered, no sudden lane change as we often see. You had plenty of time to brake, let him through, and carry on happily. Even if it's illegal... traffic is packed, I would cut him some slack...he probably saw the gap and thought it would be easier to merge than further ahead...
