The old Chitts Hill Level Crossing in Colchester

This was a manually operated crossing on the busy main line outside Colchester.
It has now been automated.

The old gates are to be reused at North Weald station.
They are now in position there, they are mainly for show & filming purposes as there is no road there, just access to a field.

I was told that there is still a man there but I assume he will go once the CCTV is operational.

So that's what they do with them these days!

In the past there used to be a place at Euston that flogged old BR gear but I guess that is long gone.
