Simple video to show how I output content from my PC to my TV/media center in a different room of the house. All video content is output at 1080p (anything not in this native resolution gets upscaled to 1080p). Audio goes out over optical toslink to my receiver, setup for 5.1 audio. I don't use a keyboard to interact with the pc, just an RF remote set up with Girder to control everything. I do leave a VNC server running on the machine in case the remote/girder stop responding and I can go in and clean things up with my laptop.

  • Are you running this on vista or xp?

  • This was running on an XP machine.

  • Was hoping you knew more about the remotes. I have a VERY similar setup, But I'm still using a mouse/keyboard. I have a Logitech Harmony Remote. What I want to do is buy an IR Sensor for the PC, so I can do what you are doing. But with the harmony remote...because my harmony also is setup for my tv, tivo, stereo....

Any suggestions of one that the harmony will "learn" ?

  • In this setup the roles are kind of reversed. You can set your harmony to mimmick any remote device, but it's the IR software that will need to learn the commands. EventGhost, Girder or WinLIRC (or LIRC in Llinux) will do the job.

  • How do you get xbmx to upscale the video content to 1080. Thanks 5 Stars

  • You just need to set your video output resolution to 1920x1080 from your operating system. MP should pick up on this default resolution, as will XBMC I believe. That's it. Anything that gets rendered is already being upscaled.

  • what kind of video card do you use? do u use GPU scaling? do u get a black bar beside or screen?

  • Ugh yah a long time ago when we renovated our house I set up a media center, only to find out that my receiver only had 1 optical in so I had to use analog audio but I found that my receiver supports virtual 5.1 so I enabled that and it sounded just as good as real 5.1. But back then i had 5.2 :D

  • Is there any STB that can be used with Media Portal?
