Saturday 17th October 2009 was a quite magnificent day weather wise - clear blue skies and no wind.
Decided that the time had come to take on the mighty CMD Arete route up to Ben Nevis. Started out from the North Face carpark at Torlundy at 10am. Did the ascent of CMD totally wrong, as I walked too far into the Corrie between Carn Mor Dearg and the North Face of Ben Nevis, almost to the CIC hut. This meant a really steep 2000 feet climb up to just shy of the summit of CMD. A much better route would have been to have started on CMD from the end as soon as you see it.
Anyway, the Arete was much easier than I expected and a great walk with minimal scrambling. The Mamores looked beautiful as I ascended that bloody bolder field to the summit of Ben Nevis. 5pm summited, so not too long to take everything in and head off down the tourist route.
I had met Uli and his family and he said to accompany them down to the Visitor Centre and he would drive me back to the North Face carpark. We did from the Lochan down in darkness, and the starry sky was amazing. Thats mate, much appreciated.
