Two Alarm KMART Arson Set To Cover Large Shoplifting Over $3Mil In Damages Spanaway WA

April 13, 2011. Spanaway, WA. The KMART store in the 17900 block of Pacific Ave South aka the Mountain Highway was the first of two stores two intentionally set on fire. The other was a Dollar Tree store that is separated by a vacant lot from the KMART. In both stores, flammable liquid was sprayed onto objects in the stores and lit on fire. In the KMART this happened in the paint department causing aerosol paint cans to explode and spread the fire through product. The fire was just at the point of over taking 18 sprinkler heads when the first Central Pierce Fire and Rescue units arrived. Cameras inside and outside the store captured images of a red headed woman quickly pushing a loaded cart of stolen items out the back of the store while it was being evacuated. Heavy smoke permeated the building and contents. Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it broke through the roof. Structural damage is estimated at $250,000 while the loss of contents due mostly to smoke damage is $3 million or more. The Pierce County Sheriff department is investigating this crime. Fortunately no injuries. It is not known when the store will be able to reopen.

@mattbjrs And she will find out it's just not a few days in jail for shoplifting. The dollar amount of losses she caused along with the theft and endangerment should result in some major prison time.

Some people just don't care. They will do anything to get what they want and don't care who they hurt in the process. Those are the main ones who hurt others than beg, pled and cry for mercy when caught.

im sorry but i think the land owners paid sombody to try to burn down kmart so they could go on with tearing the buildings down so lowes home improvement could finally go up. genx cloths kmart has like a 5-8 year lease this is why they are still in business as u can see market place foods dollar store and some kinda womans clothing store whent outa business

Ok I was wondering why it was closed when I drove by it the other day, seemed weird to me they would have just closed it without doing a going out of business sale, now I know what happened, and I hope they catch her!
