Bedari Street Theater for Awareness Raising on Domestic Violence

In order to celebrate 16 days of Activism, Bedari has organized number of events. Bedari Theater Team has developed a new play on Domestic Violence Larai Larai Maaf Karo. Bedari Team performed this play in various towns and villages of Attock District. It received overwhelming response from the audience, who referred the team to other villages and localities for performances. The record number of performances was 6 performances in one day. The sixth performance was done just before the sunset in Pindi Ghaib City. Quite a few people insisted that it should be aired on television. Overall, Bedari would hold 60 performances in three districts Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum.

Well, it was recorded with a digital still photography camera by an amatuer person, so some of the shots are not well taken (not from the right angle). Furthermore, it was performed in a street, so could not control the noise of passing vehicles...

Bedari Theater Team was detained by Punjab Police in Khewra (District Jhelum) on December 30, 2009. A Mullah had complained to the police that Bedari Theater Team was spreading obscenity. Bedari Team had performed the same play. The team remained detained for over an hour, and was allowed to go after hectic efforts by so many friends. We are thankful to all of our friends who helped us.
