This is a little taste of what we presented at camp this year (Horton Haven Christian Camp 2009, Early Teen 1). We used it as our intro video; every day I taught the girls from my potter's wheel (Jeremiah 18).
As I formed a vessel on the wheel we read: "In the beginning, God created..." And we saw that it was beautifully made (Gen. 1-2). "When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adams sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Eph 5:12). One of the girls came up and slashed the pot, then another, and another, until it was hardly recognizable. Finally one volunteer came up and sat in the potters seat and began to try her very best to fix it, to control it, to bring it back to its original glory. But the wheel was spinning out of control and we were left with a wet, messy, lopsided lump of clay"BUT GOD..." "is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much..." (Eph. 1:4, 2:4, 9)(2 Thess. 2:13). For if we confess with our mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved. (Rom. 10:9)So I took that sad little lump of clay off the wheel and re-wedged it., and re-centered it. I have been crucified with Christ ... (Gal. 2:20). I re-pulled and stretched the walls up. Its sometimes a painful process to be conformed in this way. But we also exult in our tribulations ... (Rom. 5:3-5). This one was taller, bigger, and a bit more refined. As they admired its form I reminded them to stay alert! "(1 Peter 5:8). The war being waged in our bodies between our old self and our new (Rom. 7), can cause us to still be tempted and fall into sin. Then I shared my testimony. So we ripped this pot too. But the potter never throws away the clay! When we repent and ask for forgiveness, He will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9). Many times, however, there remain consequences of sin, and we bear those scars. I closed the seam of the pot back together, but as the potter begins to carefully re-shape his vessel, he leaves traces of the scar of sin and covering it, his hand, Gods hand, holding it all together in his sovereignty so that in our weakness, he might be glorified. (2 Cor. 12:9-10). For, there is NOTHING that can separate us from Gods loveNOTHING in ALL creation will EVER be able to separate us from the LOVE of God that is revealed in CHRIST JESUS our Lord. (Rom. 8:38-39). (emphasis mine)
I had so much fun with you girls this year at camp! Thanks for your encouragement and I hope you continue to think on these things!
