Part 3. The pilots and mechanics at the Women In Aviation International Conference have advice for you if you want to become a pilot or get into any job in the aviation field. Hear from fighter pilots, the 1st ever female Thunderbird pilot, Gulfstream jet pilots, corporate pilots, helicopter pilots, flight instructors and more. How did they do it? What's it like?

  • hi,.im junrey from phils,, i saw u in this youtube account..im currently a nursing student right now but something was bothering myself,im a graduating student in this nursing course.. since i was young im dreaming of flying a plane but now i was on the wrong way.. i was just thinking if how could i able to avail any scholarship that your talking about.. WAI was for women how about Men like me.. ?

  • There are many options. In your case, since you are so close to finishing you nursing course, why not finish becoming a nurse? Then you can earn good money for a while and save some money to use to learn to fly. Most pilots I know have 2 skills, not just flying. You have a good opportunity if you are patient. All things can come. I know some airline pilots who are also nurses and doctors. It's good to do both. Then you will have many options and you can do anything you want.

  • Also, Some pilots I know had to wait a few years before they could fly (some had to wait until their children were grown). There is plenty of time.

In the meantime, you can apply to scholarships -- it takes a few months. For example WAI will hand out more scholarships next March at their conference. But if it were me, I wouldn't give up finishing a course I started and start a new one until I had finished the other one. It looks good on your resume to finish something you start, too.

    Cheers,

    Syd

  • I started flying when I was a 19 year-old civilian student. While in school, I joined the ROTC program to see if I might like the military lifestyle. I didn't really enjoy it but I did eventually get selected for flight training in the US Army.

One thing to consider is that military flying is definitely oriented toward conducting warfare. While that should be obvious, you'd be surprised how hard that reality can hit you once you begin training.

  • mann im having decisions on either to become a fighter pilot for the USAF but then im still having that thought of becoming a commerical pilot!! idk! but i just i really want to join the military badddly im just not quite sure...

  • thanks for the vid :)
