Making a movable canopy for the P-51 Mustang
I thought it would be kind of cool to have the canopy on the P-51 Mustang to open and close,
Well, I figured how to do so.
Maybe theres a different way of do it, but this is the way I did it, and it works for me.
I use, iClone3 and Photoshop CS2 , windows XP pro sp3.
Youll need to get Reallusions Machines of War.
In iClone3 double click on C190_P51, from Air Force, from the Machines of War in the Content Manager, next go to Modify:, Transform:, Move: move the X: -213, Y: -65 and the Z: -99, then go to rotate and rotate the Z: 279. Note: you dont have to have the move or rotate as the same settings as I have, but it is important that you remember or write down the move and rotate settings that you made.
In Scene Manager: under prop: uncheck : Landing Gear, Propeller, P-51 Gas Tank L, P-51 Gas Tank R, and US Pilot, I also uncheck shadows in Modify:, Display. Do not uncheck Prop or P-51.
Now, still in the Scene Manager: click on P-51 then go to Material & Texture Settings under Modify ,
And click on Diffuse and launch it into Photoshop, then go back to iClone and click on Opacity and launch it to Photoshop.
In Photoshop: Drag the Diffuse window over into the Opacity window, snapping it into place, then Maximize the window, and size the image to 200% or 300%.
In the Layers Palette, click on the Background.
Go all the way up to the left hand corner of the image, youll find the bottom frame of the canopy, lasso it with the polygonal lasso tool or any lasso tool you like to use,
when done, hold down the space bar and drag image to the left then youll find the top frame of the canopy, press and hold down the shift key as you lasso this frame, then hold down the space bar and drag the image up and there youll find the canopy, holding down the shift key lasso the back part of the canopy.
Go to Select: and then inverse, paint 100% Black anywhere on the image with the paint bucket tool, go to Layers Palette and Delete Layer 1. the Opacity window should be black except for the three items that were lasso.
Send the Opacity window back to iClone. And click update, youll see that the p-51 Mustang has disappeared, and only the back half of the canopy is there.
Now bring in an other C19_P51, and set the same move and rotate settings as you done the first one, and Launch it into Photoshop the same as before and lasso the two frames and the canopy the same way as before,
But time do not inverse the image, and paint only the frames and canopy, when you delete layer 1, the Opacity window should be white except for the three items that you lasso, they should be black.
Send the Opacity window back to iClone. And click update.
Now go to Scene Manager click on P-51 under prop, go to move X: and move it to open and close,
of course you are going to do some tweaking with the X and Z movers
Thank You
