Occultation of the Planet Venus by the Moon, May 16, 2010, as seen fro Cebu City, Philippines. The actual moment of contact, as recorded by my watch was 7:36PM...you can see the planet Venus "winking out" or disappearing behind the moon at around 7:36:44PM. Yep that's my funny voice in the background LOL

  • venus?how could the venus be a perfect circle while the moon is not??....just wondering.

  • @ffortress18

The moon looks like that, because the sun is (almost directly) behind it. Venus itself is crescent-shaped at times when it starts to "overtake" the earth, but you need a telescope to see it as a crescent.

  • @rodsky71 Since when does the moon crescents light on it's bottom? Isn't it suppose to be on the sides?

  • @20fox10 because the latitude of Cebu City is at 11 degrees from the equator, and thus we get to see the the Cheshire or Wet Crescent more often than people in temperate countries do

  • @jekskie

Nope. By the time "second contact" or "egress" of Venus occurs, both the Moon and Venus would have been below the horizon (or behind Cebu's mountains, in my case) already, so it would have been impossible for me to take a video, unless I was in a high-altitude aircraft or a spacecraft in orbit around the earth and passing over the Philippines at exactly 8:22PM Philippine Standard Time. :)
