The Apollo 17 astronauts lead the pledge of allegiance (after a few false starts!) and the Little Angels choir of Chicago performs the national anthem, accompanied by the University of Michigan Marching Band. Note that despite what you may read on other web sites, Andy Williams did not perform the national anthem at this game. He sang with the band at halftime.

  • @efrem1 No, LBJ died on January 22, 1973, 8 days AFTER this game which was January 14, 1973. Also on January 22, 1973 Roe v Wade was passed and American involvement in Vietnam ended.

  • @jjs022478 It's been a long time, but it was actually LBJ who died in early 1973 a few days just before this game.

  • Damn, how bout the pledge of alegiance, u don't hear that at the big game.

  • Man, I can still feel how nervous I was, as a kid in Miami anticipating this game. I knew history was at stake. My dad bought season tickets beginning in '72.

It's great to see the Dolphin players at the end of this clip. #23 during the national anthem was Hubert Ginn, a kick returner. Later there's #83 Vern Den Herder and #86 Marlin Briscoe among others. I still remember the entire team.

And it's also interesting to see the Coliseum, about 8 years before I enrolled at USC.

    Great video!

  • flag was at half-staff because Truman had died the day after Christmas '72

  • NFL Network is going to air this game on the Saturday before the Super Bowl. I hope they don't cut anything out like they did with XIII and III when they aired them.

  • Ah, for the days when the Super Bowl started with a college marching band and a children's choir rather than Aerosmith and Justin Timberlake.
