A tribute to a truly amazing folk singer who passed away recently. This is a song from his early 90s release Inside.

  • This was always one of my very favorite ones by him, too. I always thought the last "house" mentioned in it was an oblique reference to the grave--and now, well, I guess Bill's not the man from out of town anymore, is he?

So sad to hear the news of his passing. I've been going to hear him sing since the '70s.

  • @AugustMeteors I always thought the same thing about the "last house' but maybe not as final as your interpretation. Perhaps a spiritual enlightenment or he found the thing he was seaching for . . .?

  • There's something about this song.... it touches me deeply.... sung by a unique man in his own unique way... I found out today that he had passed away....

  • Thanks.

  • as a musician I keep a close look at the new comers to town.I last saw Bill in Ossipee Nh at the grocery store.Never met him before but walked up to say hi recognizing him from his album cover .He was my next door neighbour basically living just over the next ridge and as the song says a new comer to town.

He was very nice and received me well as if I had known him for years

  • there are things in this life a man just does not get to choose....

  • @Sonnyboy56 Or a cessation of searching. Getting too old to keep searching. Or realizing that the object of the search is elusive. The motivation was the "fire." Now being in a place that's "fireproof." Being past the inclination to search. So much is said that isn't said in his songs--that's why they can speak to so many people. I'm gonna miss him.

  • I just heard the news. This is my favorite tune by him, it has always held a special meaning for me. Thanks for posting this one. "
