Hi,
Just some tips on the riders form, because it is a little loose and is hurting the horses preformance. You tend to throw your entire upper body at the fence and throw away all contact, and I totally understand getting anxious and "trying to help the horse jump" I show 1.40metres, 4'6, but try and keep still and just follow the horse and support with your body instead of throwing away what you have, have a nice fluid motion. :) just some tips! try them :)

Good observation. A bad habit I developed when I was growing up in order to keep me from jabbing my pony with a double scissor bit mid-jump! My daughter has been having me work on better form over fences for the past year. As 4'6" has become easier and easier, I think my form is becoming better. At least my daughter is nagging me less! :-)

I considered that potential -- but knowing that I wasn't getting into a very challenging fence with proper striding, I felt it was best to bail. And it has worked -- he'll jump anything I take him towards (within reason). As long as he trusts me that I'm not going to take him into anything that he can't handle, we get along fine. In all the jumping we did this summer, the only thing he refused was a 2' drop into a foot of water -- so we're going to build a water jump now so we can practice!
