It can't perhaps, but it should. The Hip, once a staple of consistency album to album. Their last few albums conspired against this trend (after IVL). However, there always seems to be a gem or two on each new disc (this track; in view; morning moon). Love ya guys regardless.

Remember the Canadian TV Show "Corner Gas" where the Hip appear in a cameo playing this song?

Great song, a song aimed at the all the yahoo's who supported the war in iraq and alienated the dixie chicks. I hope Toby keith likes this one, cause it has got you in the cross hairs. stupid ass redneck, i would meet him at center ice and this deliver this message personally

They're fantastic, right up there with the Go-Betweens.

I confess. I never really liked the Hip. I bought the new album after hearing Morning Moon, and I was INSTANTLY hooked. I went back through their (quite extensive) catalog and can easily say that these guys are amongst the elites of Canadian music. Love it!

this song was written around the time, and about, the iraq war and how celebrity members of the american community openly supported it (toby keith for one). in saying that, the line 'stares into the queer of the firefight', could describe an american soldiers doubts as to the legitimacy of this war, as a violent confrontation is taking place before him/her. and queer, used here, could mean the absurdity of the firefight itself. like, queer, odd, out of place...you know?
