United Nations, New York, 10 June 2009 - Noon briefing by the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General. The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the terrorist attack in Peshawar, Pakistan. Mr. Ban has expressed "dismay" at the attack on the Pearl Continental Hotel in Peshawar that has left many people dead, including two UN staff members from the organisations' refugee and children's agency.
Media outlets around the world are reporting that as many as 18 people have been killed in the truck bombing that destroyed the Pearl Continental Hotel in Peshawar, the capital of the troubled North West Frontier Province (NWFP), on Tuesday night.
The Secretary-General described the attack as "brutal". But despite the danger and instability humanitarian workers face in the region, he has vowed that the UN will continue its work to help alleviate the suffering of more than two million Pakistanis who have been affected by the ongoing displacement crises.
