What a great and exciting match. A classic. If Connors doesn't inspire you with this match, nothing will. Loved it.

Interesting Krickstein got a bothersome blister just before going up 5-2, and needing but 1 out of the next 3 games to win this match.
Did that blister affect his play? Of course it did, but the great ones dig down for that something extra.
Remember Connors toe causing him to come up lame and hobbling nearly the entire 1983 U.S. Open Final against Lendl?
A bad toe for an entire match is FAR worse than having a blister for a couple of games.
Championships are WON, not given.
Connors #1

@jayfey77 "...he was 39 years old i doubt anyone could have done better at that age."
Indeed, NOBODY!

Connors was also coming in a lot as his opponent was a baseliner, unwilling to move in at all, pretty much. Connors knew it was his best chance against a young person.

thanks for posting jeyfey77 - love all your stuff
It's interesting how frequently Connors was attacking the net in this match. It was probably a result of wanting to save energy by ending the points more quickly. Earlier in his career he was a bit more selective about the shots on which he approached.
