If someone is having a trouble like I did because of the new look in 3ds max 2012 read this;
In the tutorial were told to press M button to open up the '' Material Editor'' The shortcut is right and everything works but when you press it you get a totally different window and its called; ''Slate Material Editor'' In order to get exact the same look as in the tutorial, once you open it up in the Slate material editor go to; Modes > Compact Material Editor.
