Neil Young Tribute Concert at Massey Hall in Toronto, June 10, 2009

On June 10, 2009 I saw A Canadian Songbook: Tribute to Neil Young Live At Massey Hall concert here in Toronto, Canada. Artists included Cowboy Junkies (fabu!); Carole Pope; Holly Cole; Issa (Jane Siberry who for me was, unfortunately , a huge disappointment); Colin James (in fine form, ageing well as well); Sarah Slean (adorable); (a totally rocking) Sisters Euclid; Steven Page (x-Barenaked Ladies frontman - really excellent, he's so talented); Bill Frisell Trio; (the really quirky) Daniel Michel & Stevie Jackson; (sweet) Kathryn Rose, Emilie Claire Barlow & Melanie Doane, singing in harmony; Chocolate Genius Inc who when asked what was the first Neil Young song you ever sung he said "...this one" pointing to the piano he just finished playing; (the almost Hillbilly-ish) Colin Linden and others. Totally fabu show with the rare exception. Here's the final ensemble finale...enjoy!

from Issa.....I wouldn't.

I was there, and I was really disappointed with some of the performances, especially Ohio, Love in Mind, Don't Let It Bring You Down and Heart Of Gold. There's a world was awful, too. Old Man, Cowgirl in the Sand, A Man needs a Maid were great though.

The Bill Frisell Trio played the opening two songs - On The Way Home and Tell Me Why. They weren't bad.

The sound was awful imo - way too loud and the vocals levels weren't right at all.

I was at this show, excellenc all around. Great job to all these great artists. You missed a great show if you passed on this.
