Beside Sonny & Cher, the husband-and-wife team Ike & Tina Turner is the most famous "supercouple" in pop music. Well known for wild and energetic live shows and cover versions, their sixteen years relationship was often overshadowed by Ike Turner's physical abuse of his wife. The Phil Spector produced "River Deep - Mountain High" ought to cost more than US$ 20.000.- but flopped badly upon it's release in the United States. Since the re-release in 1969, it has become one of Tina Turner's most signature songs.

@goodtogonow3 He was probably right. That version flopped,in the US, gave Phil Spector a serious depression because he was proud of it. It was the start of his decline that ended in prison. Even that is not as good as Celine Dion's cover, I think. And I hate to say this. I admire Tina and for a long time i switched of the radio when Dion was on. And mostly, I think the original version is best . A matter of opinion, of course. Tina is a superb entertainer, great singer. No argument.
