The Seu Vella (the old cathedral), stands on a hill at the historical centre of Lleida. Its construction begun in 1203 and was dedicated in 1278; the cloister was finished in the 16th century and the belltower in 1431. In 1707, when Lleida was occupied by the Spanish troops of Philip V, he gave order of destroying it, but it ended up as a barracks and was closed to cult in 1797.
