With rare exceptions, almost all of my recordings are spur of the moment decisions. I suppose I say that by way of an excuse. Next thing you know I'll be recording Rick Astley songs - perhaps something lesser-known than his "Never Gonna Give You Up". Anybody remember anything else by Astley?

Tiffany was 16 when this hit number one. The song (like Billy Idol's "Mony Mony" and Joan Jett's anthemic "I Love Rock 'n' Roll") was originally by Tommy James And The Shondells, and penned by their producer Ritchie Cordell.

The lyrics below are roughly as I sing it - cutting the song short a little as the ending is just chorus repetitions.

***

Children behave
That's what they say when we're together
And watch how you play
They don't understand and so we're

Runnin' just as fast as we can
Holdin' on to one another's hand
Tryin' to get away into the night
And then you put your arms around me
And we tumble to the ground
And then you say

I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound

Look at the way
We gotta hide what we're doing
What would they say
They don't understand and so we're

Runnin' just as fast as we can
Holdin' on to one another's hand
Tryin' to get away into the night
And then you put your arms around me
And we tumble to the ground
And then you say

I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound

I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound

  • well done you that was beautiful

  • This is incredible. I didn't expect such a good version. Probably my favorite.

  • Wow! nicest version of this song I've ever heard :) great!

  • This was originally by Tommy James and the Shondells back in the '60s! They had the real talent, not Tiffany!

  • nice cover
