La primera parte del choque reflejó claramente el estado de tensión en que se encontraban los jugadores con un joven Arvydas Sabonis cercano al estado de crispación en sus continuos choques con un Arapovic no siempre deportivo. La Cibona siempre se mantuvo delante en este período, manteniendo un ventaja que se movía entre los 4-7 puntos gracias al acierto de sus hombres exteriores, especialmente Cvjeticanin. El Zalgiris de la mano de Sabonis, mostraba una aplastante superioridad bajo los aros, a pesar de los dobles marcajes Arapovic-Nakic Usic-Nakic.
La segunda parte se mantuvo la tónica hasta que a 9 minutos del final llegó una jugada clave.
