OK, this isn`t funny at all, but it certainly isn`t meant to be. This is from 1984, when alot of us were genuinely worried that we were about to be blown up. There has always been a place for seriousness in good comedy.
An interesting side note is that the scene at the end was, apparently, filmed where the Millennium Dome is now!
There was alot more to Dave Allen than jokes about drunks and priests....

  • You figure it's stunning criticism to say nuclear war deleteriously affects all fronts? You are easily stunned.

  • No, but it`s quite brave to put a sketch like this in a comedy show. It`s the kind of thing Richard Curtis and Ben Elton got praised for doing in Blackadder around 5 years later.

  • Wow, excellent video. It says a lot about nuclear warfare, doesn't it?

  • THANK YOU. I remember seeing this when I was young, when nuclear devastation seemed a very real possibility. It seemed such a weird way to end a comedy show, but worked really well. Nuclear holocaust is a bit of an obsession for me - I recommend Threads for those of you with strong stomachs, and also The War Game.

  • That bit at the end was quite funny, when hes shouting we won and then relising that everything gone, if it was me I would stay in the shelter cause of contamination to the air.

  • What is so terrifying is that there really was a lot of that mentality around then especially pro-government after the Falklands. I remember more the feeling that Britain was on the edge of Socialist revolution. There was an edge to DA but he very rarely pushed it.I visited the USSR for a week in the early 80s. For all its faults and corruption I remember a poster in a train of the 'one world in peace' children's kind (as far as very little Russian could understand it). Never saw that in London

  • Anyone who doesn't appreciate the irony in this is a fucking moron.

  • @RuniToconillo Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

  • Classic Allen but....We maybe sooner to this than we think....

  • So funny, yet so true. P.S. Dave Allen was such a genius.

  • Instead of being able to wipe out the enemy 2,000 times it's now only 1,000 times. They hope to reduce the 'weaponry' that would only wipe out the enemy 500 times - Ah to be shure to be shure eh :(

Still you have to hand it to the bankers and Wall St for sheer destructive capacity . They even keep the victims alive to torture them all the more :(

In the Middle Ages flaying alive was considered the proper penalty for usury followed by the nailing of their skins to the church door.

  • WE WON!!!

  • You have to be kept living in fear or you might notice the bars on the window.

  • Gosh, knowing so many Dave Allen sketches I was expecting it to end with "you have been listening to our one month continuous drama series..." He always had a surprise up his sleeve. Thanks, Runi.
