I used a 5000v neon sign transformer once and got zapped pretty hard, caution is highly recomended with this stuff. Watch the ozone creation it is corrosive,

Certainly not, is right.
I don't know. I'm content right now just to use these comments. It gives me some control (I can remove graffiti and block vandals) and the short comment format forces conciseness and clarity. Say that 5 times really fast.

is the 555 wired as astable? also are you using a TO-220 style transistor? great job!

@bleachworthy
The 2n3055 is a TO-3 case. The 555 is astable, yes. Don't forget to put in a big fast diode to protect it from the spike from the coil. Thanks...

how much did it cost

@plecebomc
The most expensive part for me was the ignition coil, i bought it new from a car parts store, but you can get one from a junkyard for 5 dollars probably. The rest of the electronics parts probably cost about 8 or ten dollars. the big transistor is usually around 2, the chip 50 cents, and so on.
All the parts are very common and should be available off the shelf at just about any component store.
