Matt Shadetek explains how to setup a dirty dubstep style wobble bass in Logic, using the ES2 synthesizer. Going beyond simple frequency cutoff, he takes you deep into the ES2's modulation section, and explains some advanced synthesis concepts. In part 1 (this video) he shows how to create the sound and in part 2 he shows how to tweak it out over time.

  • This is one of the first videos I checked out, seriously the opening song is so DOPE. This really opened up my mind. Thought I'd check back and watch again to see if I missed anything. Is there anyway to record Automation parameters live? If that makes any sense. Thanks for sharing!

  • @DanSemotan thanks Dan! You can record them live by switching the track into Latch mode, playing the track and moving the knobs. It will all be written as automation, I actually cover it quickly in part 2 of the video.

    .

  • finish that and upload it <3

  • @iEmbarked if you email the address in the video we'll send you a copy of the project, you can take it and make your own version!

  • Hey thanks for the tutorial man, I like the sound. I pretty much copied every step exactly and it sounds just like it, but for some reason it sounds really out of tune. Especially with a lower octave, a C will sound really detuned and if i try to correct it using any pitch correction, it messes up the high notes! Can you help me out? Thanks a bunch

  • @spada283 Make sure you haven't got anything assigned to either the 'pitch' or 'detune' parameters in the modulation matrix, that could definitely affect your tuning.

  • @Ravenpulse I'd love to hear how you'd approach it. What would you do differently?

  • @DubSpot any ideas on how to make the 'whomp bass' sound in logic?
