most women today can barely walk in heels much less hoof it like Ginger Rogers could. Most of you would break a bone trying that now days. lol

Technically brilliant and utterly accessible - how many artists of the 20th century can you say that of?

Parker is the best female tap dancer I've seen. But in fairness to Rogers in this video, she is wearing a long dress and high heels.

Yep. All props to Ginger Rogers and Astaire's other female partners, but check Begin the Beguine with Eleanor Powell and Fred. The male icons- Astaire and Kelly-said she was the only woman dancer that made them just a little insecure. It was they who had to keep up. Just astounding. All of it, really

She was a marvelous actress. One film, "The Major and the Minor," is one of my favorites! And "Vivacious Lady," GAH!

She's like the Emma Stone of yesterday... or rather, Ms. Stone is the Ginger of our times.

The whole dancing backward thing was never Ginger's comment. Someone else said it and people ran with it. That being said, I entirely agree that their dances are a TEAM effort. While Fred's name is often stand alone, Ginger's seems to always need to be attached to his. People tend to forget that she was an accomplished person in her own right.

Come on there are like 5cm. It's not that high. Of course I couldn't do it because I've never practice in my life, but for someone that can dance it's doable.

@MuppetMollyStarGleek the backward part is a reference to how people dance. the man leads and the woman follows, going backward. it jas nothing to do with ginger not working hard, in fact dancing backward is harder than dancing forward.

This is the internet. Why don't you research it? There is plenty of stuff on this. Calves and feet adjust, and do so pretty quickly.

I'm a big fan of Ginger, as was Fred. Indeed, she's what made their pictures in the '30's special--unlike his (and Kelly's) other partners, she could do it all--sing, dance, a great comic actress, and a beauty. But, she did not do everything Fred did (and the doing it backwards is way overplayed).
