Variations on a theme by Michael Glinka, composed by Rimsky-Korsakov in 1878 during his (11-year lasting!) period as head of the military bands in the Russian army. One of the realy well composed and outstanding original pieces for oboe and wind band. Just listen to the colorful instrumentation and the virtuoso oboe part, and keep in mind that Igor Stravinsky (born in 1882) later became a student of Rimsky-Korsakov and got his training in counterpoint and instrumentation from this "giant" in Russian music life.

mesmerizing in parts, inspiring in others. Any sources for the sheet music for the oboe solo?
