Baby Seal pup, Ocean Shores, Washington

Today a momma Seal brought her young pup up to the beach so she could go hunt and rest. I local explained to us that they do this frequently because the pup slows them down when hunting.

Later in the afternoon, groups of people were yelling at someone to get away from the pup from our resort. By the time I got down there, a guy drug it to the ocean and threw it back in. It was clearly posted not to touch and that there was a 10000 fine with his name on it. Another member of the resort was clearly angry and yelling at him. I wish I would have grabbed the camera.

You're right about the fine. But, worse than that, the pup may be abandoned because of the contact. Even you might have endangered the guy by just being so close. If Mama saw you on the beach, she might have gave it up then! Just step away from the animals, they got a life to live...and it don't include you!

Please, people, play on the beach, but leave the animals out of it!

@MiK4Watson I was outside of the legal space designated for sea life. We come across pups all the time on the beach. The moms leave them to sun themselves while they go feed. If you stay outside of the legal space, they will be fine. If you touch them, most likely you kill them. Not to mention, people have gotten nasty bites.
