TAKE ME HOME TO MAYO (BALLAD OF MICHAEL GAUGHAN)
SEAMUS ROBINSON

( CHORUS )

Take me home to Mayo, across the Irish Sea;
Home to dear old Mayo, where once I roamed so free.
Take me home to Mayo, there let my body lie;
Home at last in Mayo, beneath an Irish sky.

My name is Michael Gaughan, from Ballina I came;
saw my people suffering and swore to break their chain
I raised the flag in England, prepared to fight or die
Far away from Mayo, beneath an Irish sky.

( repeat chorus )

My body cold and hungry, in Parkhurst Gaol I lie;
For loving of my country, on hunger strike I die --
I have just one last longing, I pray youll not deny
Bury me in Mayo, beneath an Irish sky.

( chorus )

  • You are damn tootin,I have voted for nothing else all my days hoping the rest of my nation will do the same (the education and class system puts paid to educating the masses on the merits of freedom however).Wont stop me shouting from wherever I can for Independence.Cheers for the reply!

  • @GaryPucket

    Different situation. This song is about a relative of mines. and i wouldve done the same thing in his position.

    I live in Scotland now and the way for us to go is to vote for the SNP and force the independence referendum. Michael Gaughan and company didnt have that option.

    But free Scotland surely!

  • Violence begets violence.......

    FREE SCOTLAND!

  • RIP Michael Gaughan
