***Hey, I'm already getting lot's of e-mails asking me to go back to the old camera... This was just a spur of the moment thing. I really want to get back to doing my books and videos and as soon as I have my life FULLY back together I will come back with a vengence. Thanks for the support all!***
Every morning when I wake up I always spend a bit of time shedding on the blues, even as now when I'm not really playing out and taking care of other stuff. For years, it was inevitably mid-tempo or up, but I now realize that slow is much better for developing time and dynamics. That said, I'm really proud of myself, because I remember that years ago when I first started gigging, slow tempo tunes really terrified me... too easy to mess up. - - In addition, I have adult ADD and am addicted to diet cola (about 1.5 - 3 liters a day!) so uptempo is much better for my nervous energy. - - To deal with this, you'll hear a slow bass line, but if you listen to my solo, you can hear I'm counting the beats in between the beats and playing off those subdivisions.

I also hope that this video is proof that the drawbars on the NORD are no problem... Actually, I don't have pedals, so even on a real organ, when there aren't pedals I don't work the drawbars as much... A big problem with a lot of players are that they get so hung up on changing the drawbars that they break their time... this is a big no no... !

This is a slow blues... well, actually, not that slow... but a bit slow.

For the record:
Video as recorded with Logitech Webcam and ICamShare.
NORD is run into a Behringer KX1200 speaker that I only paid $150 for.
NO LESLIE, no pedals other than swell pedal and rotary control (which I don't use on this video.)
As for the camera angel: I practice in my underpants... Not such a pretty site.

  • *showing great respect to a great organ player*

i also run my nord c1 through a kx900. even though the sound is ballsy, unbelievably ballsy for the 150e i paid for this amplifier , the sound is too middle and i have to play with the EQ all the time.

    Is the kx1500 better?

Thank you in advance and keep grooving

    stelios

  • Hi ! Well first I have to say that I only use it in my apartment, so I don't blast... At the level I play it, the dynamic is incredible based on the sound I go for, though I wonder what it would sound like up against a drunk drummer and un-necessarily amped guitar... - - I have to say I was very surprised because most the reviews for the unit that I read were awful, but for a buck fifty, who can complain, so I got it... I found it way better than the Alesis Sumo, a piece of sh't in my book!

  • Regarding EQ, I have it set as follows:

    Master: half way

    Hi : about half

Hi Mid : all the way down

    Low Mid : cranked

    Bass : Cranked

I also reduce the mid on the NORD...

Whatever, thanks for the compliments... Please let me know how you work things out with your amps !

  • This is really nice. Sounds great brother and I love the comment bubbles. But please switch back to the older camera that you used or jack up the frame rate because on my end it looks like it is running at 2 frames per second and it is impossible to really see what you're doing.

Great work man. When will your website be up and running? I have been dying to buy you BassLine book and Seven Secrets book. I have your VHS tape of the Seven Secrets and it is good. But I really need those books. Peace

  • Nice one! The C1 is a top organ! - I've owned one for a couple of years and I think it does a great job of recreating the Hammond sound and character

  • Beautiful instrument there bro.. 5 stars and a sub :))

  • GREAT!

  • Real nice video and I also enjoy the embedded tips. I have so much to learn with just about everything in playing the keyboard. I have music theory books, CD's, VCR's, etc., but reading, watching, etc., then translating that to my fingers is a "long and winding road" for me. But after 40 years of not playing and then purchasing a couple keyboards 3 years ago, I need to be patient and look for a way that is effective for me to progress.

  • Hey Eddie, I've got one more question for you. I remember on some site or it might have been here in some comments on another video, you mentioned that you were going to get some pedals for the C1. Did you ever get them and are you using any here? Would you recommend them?

Again man, I love you videos especially The Days of Wine and Roses. And good luck with the website I hope it gets up soon so that I can check out your books... I need some schoolin' Peace.

  • Wow... fanatastic!

    GREAT instrument that C1.
