My name is Nazar Loun and I am a documentary filmmaker from Lviv,Ukraine living in United States. Four years ago I stumbled on a group of dedicated friends that decided to form their own non profit theatre company called "The Bay Street Theatre" in Downtown Savannah GA. While observing how talented and passionate these people were I decided to document some of their shows. Then being blown away by the performances and their ability to make great looking shows out of nearly $0 budgets and in most cases paying for props and costumes out of their own pockets, I decided to turn the footage I had into a documentary. Then a production of "Hedwig and The Angry Inch" came to the theatre and broke the mold of the usual and expected productions seen before in the town of Savannah. The performances were no less then BRILLIANT. From that show on I made the commitment to continue filming the theatre grow for over four years. I went to their auditions, rehearsals, shows, Costume and supply shopping days and some out of theatre events. I was there for the bad times and the good. Witnessing personal sacrifices, losses and amazing success stories they taught me what true love and friendship is. Last year the theatre received multiple awards and is now staging productions of amazing quality and talent while sticking to the same old principles with the same group of friends. This year started out with the very successful production of Cabaret that sold out every show and had to extend its run for another week do to the demand. For this film I focused on the production of Hedwig and the angry inch and its star actor Christopher Blair predominantly but did not stop there i was there for many other amazing behind the scenes moments of most other shows. I will also interview other local theatre groups to show how the theatre community is intertwined and the way it helps and supports one another even though they are completely separate and independent groups. I hope to portray these amazing people to you as I've seen and see them and open a window into their world. This theatre group and community is amazing and the world must hear their story.
